PostSubject: Designing a PMT dreadnaught   Sun Jan 08, 2012 11:49 pm

Hello, folks. I'd like some help designing a PMT railgun dreadnaught (500mm rail artillery). It would also serve the role of fleet leader and fire control center, that means lots of communication arrays, satelite uplink and sensor arrays will go into it. Anyone care to co-design it?

There's really no need for a ship to fill this role... :/

Besides, a dreadnaught size vessel would be very vulnerable due to its size and therefor low speed...

It depends on the propulsion system. And according to Carpathian military doctrine, dreadnoughts are necessary, since we have no ships that fulfill the role of fleet leader within our Combat Operations Network. (All that hardware requires a lot of room and a sizeable crew and to make it mobile, it needs to be installed on a dreadnought-size vessel.)

But that dreadnaught sized vessel is going to be a dreadnaught sized target. Rule of thumb is; the bigger it is, the slower it is. Sure, you can strap more engines on it, but it will onl weight it down due to the actual weight of the hardware, then the weight of the fuel carried etc.

Anyways, I'll help you design it if you like. Smile
